Customer Review: We’ve had the Royal Gourmet for a few months now. You can tell by the “wear” that we use it fairly often. This morning lightening hit our house and we lost power. We’ll I must have coffee so I got out the ‘ole percolator and used the grill to make coffee. Not bad. This was my first time using the grill without my husband and I gotta say, it was very easy to operate. It makes fantastic burgers and brats and we are looking forward to taking it camping and trying baked potatoes. It is a bit of a chore to clean. The brown residue is left over burger, I tried to convince my husband to cook on tinfoil but he chose not to so we have residue. It has handles but takes 2 of us to transport and we use it on a cheap folding table. All together I would definitely recommend this grill.

Now to get ready for cooking to see how it performs. I’s nice and heavy and appears to be well built, but where’s my thermostat? If I like the way it cooks, I can install my own thermostat , but where’s my thermostat. That should be standard stuff for something like this. Just finished eggs, sunny side up and bacon. Performed well.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: Super heavy cooktop (cook plate itself weighs somewhere around 75 pounds) and stainless exterior makes this thing as easy to use and as durable as the one at my restaurant. Yeah, it gets stupid levels of hot, but it is perfectly capable of maintaining low temperatures for everyday use. The fact that it’s designed to use the lid as a cooking cover makes it work well as a pizza oven and closing it with with on the heated surface steam cleans everything in side where it doesn’t matter what you made and got stuck to it… it just wipes out. The grease trap is *MASSIVE* compared to everything else in the field… used it regularly (every day or every other day depending on the week) for a month before actually filling it up once. The two packs of grease trap liners I bought should last me a couple years at that rate. 20°F and windy? It didn’t care…. Still was able to get hot enough to sear the steaks, and maintain low enough to cook the over easy eggs. First time seasoning got an even black coating for corner to corner and side to side. There are *no* cold spots on this thing. Expensive? Yeah. So is a McLaren….. still worth every penny.

Customer Review: Already had an outdoor bbq table/storage unit used for food prep so I purchased this “portable” griddle to sit on top. Really heavy duty so probably not easily portable but man it’s a fantastic griddle. Well built, gets really hot and cooks really well. This Halo is of premium build as well as the cover I purchased to go with it.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: UPDATE: I have to say that I am very impressed with this company’s customer service and their prompt reaching out to me regarding my issues. They worked with me almost immediately and we were able to replace the grill with a brand new one that arrived in perfect condition. I got it set up and everything works just like it should with no issues whatsoever. In this day and age, the quality of a product goes hand in hand with the customer service and this company knocked it out of the park on both accounts. I have no problems with now recommending them or their grill to anyone looking for a nice portable unit made by a company who stands behind their product. We have a Blackstone grill that is about as portable as a tank without tracks so when I saw this, I thought it would be great addition. I will start with the good first. This is a pretty good little portable grill; it seems like it should hold up to average outdoor use as long as you aren’t too rough on it. I wouldn’t keep it outside at all because it has no top so it will rust up pretty quickly. About the only assembly you need is putting on the legs and the gas connector, then it is ready to go. The gas line they provide is ok, but it seems a little shorter but that’s ok because I actually have a longer one that also has an indicator gauge that I plan to use. Now for the negative issues that actually caused me to drop two stars off of my review (the one is serious enough that I almost took another star off as well). The first issue is more of a concern regarding where and how these grills have been stored before shipping. I opened the box and started to unpack and assemble the grill in our garage/shop which is a large three plus stall unit. The reason I mention that is that I started to smell a musty smell, sort of like when you go in an old basement here in Minnesota that has mold and mildew all over. At first, I didn’t make any connection to the grill or the box but as I moved around, I noticed that the closer I got to the grill and/or box the more intense the smell got. I finally put my nose right up to the box and just as quickly pulled it away – that was definitely the source of the smell. I then went to the grill which I had sitting on a table in another bay and again put my nose up to it and once again there was definitely a smell of mildew and basement. I was concerned enough that I took a flashlight and tried to look into the interior spaces of the grill just to make sure there was nothing inside that was moldy or even a mouse nest. Thankfully there was nothing and it looked clean but the smell is strong enough that I ended up taking the box out to a shed because it was spreading out throughout the shop. I am not sure where they store these before shipping but it is definitely a space that is wet and has mildew so anyone who is sensitive to those factors (or mold) will want to keep that in mind. The second issue could actually have the potential to be even more dangerous or even catastrophic and that is the spot where you put in the gas connector. This is not a problem by design but a problem with quality control. My grill showed up bent at the spot where the connector is supposed to go in so bad that as you can see from the photos, it wouldn’t even connect. I ended up bending the metal so that I could get it to screw in, but I still have several concerns regarding even lighting this unit up. The first is that if it got damaged right there, you can’t be certain that it didn’t damage the internal pipe that is just sort of suspended there and there is no really good way to see for sure. Secondly, while it seems like the fitting to the connector is secure, again because of the bent metal you really can’t make sure that everything is secure until you light it. I ended up giving this grill three stars because if you get a unit that is in good shape it should work as intended but I really wanted to make sure everyone was aware of my issues including the smell.

Customer Review: Throughout the warmer months of the year we go camping on weekends with our friends. Most consumer grade grills don’t hold up well to the abuse. This grill is made to withstand heavy use. My only complaint is I wish I picked up a stainless cover.

Complete Buying Guide for Best Portable Griddles For Camping

Essential Factors We Consider

Budget Planning

Portable griddles can range in price from budget-friendly options to high-end, feature-rich models. For basic needs, you can find solid performers for under $100. If you’re looking for more advanced features like dual-zone burners or larger cooking surfaces, expect to spend between $100 and $300. Consider how often you’ll use the griddle and what types of meals you plan to cook when deciding on your budget. Investing a little more upfront can often mean a more durable and higher-performing product.

Final Thoughts

Selecting the right portable griddle can significantly enhance your camping experience. Think about the size of your group, the types of food you want to cook, and how important portability is for your specific adventures. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What size portable griddle is best for camping?

A: For 1-2 people, a griddle with a cooking surface around 10-15 inches wide is usually sufficient. For families or groups of 3-4, a 20-22 inch griddle offers more space to cook larger quantities. Consider how much food you typically prepare.

Q: How do I clean a portable camping griddle?

A: Most griddles can be cleaned by scraping off excess food with a spatula while warm, then wiping down with a damp cloth. For seasoned cast iron, use a stiff brush and minimal soap, then re-season after drying. For non-stick surfaces, avoid abrasive cleaners.

Q: Can I use a griddle on a camping stove?

A: Some portable griddles are designed to sit directly on top of portable camping stoves, effectively turning your stove into a griddle. However, many standalone portable griddles have their own built-in burners.

Q: Are propane tanks included with portable griddles?

A: Typically, portable griddles do not come with propane tanks. You will need to purchase a compatible propane tank (usually a 1lb or 5lb tank) separately.

Q: How important is wind protection on a camping griddle?

A: Wind protection can be very important, especially in open camping areas. Griddles with built-in wind guards or specific designs to block wind ensure more consistent heat and efficient cooking, preventing your food from being cooked unevenly or taking much longer to prepare.

Choosing the best portable griddle for your camping trips can truly elevate your outdoor culinary game. From quick breakfasts to hearty dinners, these versatile cooking companions make preparing delicious meals in the great outdoors a breeze. We’ve covered a range of options, from compact single-burner units to multi-functional grill and griddle combos, to suit every camper’s needs and budget.
